The PRIM&R 2011 Advancing Ethical Research Conference

Chatsuda Auchieng, Regulatory, Grant and Quality Management Manager, was awarded a partial scholarship by the Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research’s (PRIM&R) to attend the Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research’s (PRIM&R) 2011 Advancing Ethical Research Conference at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center, National Harbor, MD, USA, from 1-4 December 2011.

The conference was attended by 2,500 people from around the world. Topics included regulatory updates, adverse event reporting, accreditation, stem cells, international research, IRB/principal investigator relationships, the use of tissue and data, and sessions devoted solely to social, behavioral, and educational research issues.

At the conference Chatsuda received updated information on research ethics and had opportunities to network with other professionals in the field which enable future collaboration between HIV-NAT and other organizations. Upon her return from USA, Chatsuda has shared her experience with her team as well as other local and national IRBs. She aims reduce the approval time from 3 months to 2 months without affecting the participant’s rights, health and benefits or increasing the risks.
