Biography
Dr. Charles Hicks joined GSK (ViiV Healthcare) as a Senior Global Medical Director after spending more than 30 years in academic HIV Medicine at Duke University Medical Center and at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). During his career he has served as a teacher, a mentor, a clinician and a clinical research scientist. He served as director of the Owen Clinic at UCSD, the university’s HIV Medicine clinic, before joining ViiV Healthcare in November 2017. His work at ViiV/GSK is intended to make good use of his decades of experience caring for PLWH and doing high impact clinical research to improve management strategies in the clinic.
During his years in academic medicine, he authored more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and became a tenured Professor of Medicine. He has been an investigator in many antiretroviral treatment studies over the years, including work with the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG). He has also served on a wide range of review groups and advisory panels including recent membership in the DHHS Antiretroviral Treatment Guidelines Panel
