Prof. Emeritus Praphan Phanuphak, HIV-NAT Co-director and Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Centre, and Dr. Jintanat Ananworanich, HIV-NAT Deputy Director in Scientific Affairs, presented at the 10th International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP) in Busan, South Korea in August 2011. Professor Phanuphak discussed the journey of HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention, HIV treatment and care and its challenges in Asia Pacific and the counseling and testing services provided at the Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Centre. Dr. Ananworanich talked about care and psychosocial support for HIV-positive children, latest pediatric HIV study results and lessons learnt for the Asia Pacific region.
Convened biennially by the ASAP and UNAIDS, ICAAP is the largest HIV/AIDS Forum in Asia Pacific Region. It is a gathering for the release and discussion of scientific, programmatic and policy developments in the global response to the issues of HIV/AIDS. The forum promotes opportunities for greater regional collaboration, sharing of ideas among people infected and affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemics from across the Asia and the Pacific region and provides regional and national organizations, governments and individual stakeholders with space to enhance their mutual contributions in the response to HIV/AIDS.
