Intrauterine device as a modern method of contraception in – Thai HIV-positive women

Project no.: HIV-NAT 126.1

This is a prospective study with a follow up period of six months. The main goal is to assess the acceptance of and adherence to intrauterine device (IUD) as a contraceptive method in Thai HIV positive women.

Results: Copper IUD, though currently not a common choice among Thai HIV-positive women, could be accepted. Education on IUD risks and benefits is needed to promote the use of IUD in addition to condoms as an effective contraceptive option in HIV-infected women.
