Hormonal contraception in HIV-positive women

Project no.: HIV-NAT 147/Hormonal contraception

This is a prospective cohort study with 200 Thai HIV-positive women on HAART and willing to use hormonal contraception provided as a standard low dose COC pill for two months.

Results: In contrast to NVP, co-administrating DSG/EE containing COC, with EFV was associated with unfavorable progesterone and ARV levels.  Our results suggest that NVP may be superior to EFV when used with COC in HIV positive women.

Published: First manuscript submitted to journal. Second manuscript is foreseen once sex steroid hormones laboratory results are ready.
